Our bottom blocks

CARBONE SAVOIE is able to offer, to any plant in the world, an adapted solution. Carbone Savoie proposes a full range of bottom block grades ranging from semi-graphitic to graphitic and graphitized.

OUR CARBON BLOCKS

The carbon cathode family from Carbone Savoie, well known throughout the industry, consists of our HC3 & HC5 and our HC10.

  • HC3, HC5 grades are semi-graphitic blocks containing respectively 30 % and 50 % graphite as dry raw material.
  • HC10 grade is a graphitic block containing 100 % graphite as the dry raw material.

OUR GRAPHITIZED BLOCKS

Meeting the challenges of modern high amperage cells Carbone Savoie has developed a wide variety of graphite grades. Based on 2 standard grades, and with possible combinations with some process options.

  • Graphitized blocks : K grade and D grade.
  • Post graphitization impregnated blocks : KI grade.
  • Graphitized block with various options on resistivity : low resistivity or pro­filed resistivity

 

Our sidewalls and preformed sidewalls

OUR SIDEWALLS

To fully suit all operating conditions and all technologies, Carbone Savoie offers a full range of sidewalls with any shape from the simplest parallelepiped to the most sophisticated trapezoidal shapes and with a wide range of thermal conductivity.

  • Fully anthracitic grade CF.
  • Semi-graphitic grade MC.
  • 100% graphitic grade HC.
  • Fully graphitized grade PHC.

OUR PREFORMED SIDEWALLS

A new trend is currently developing in lining, consisting of the replacement of part of the ramming paste in the periphery of the cells by pieces of pre-baked and pre-shaped carbon or graphite, often glued with silicon carbide slabs.
Carbone Savoie offers its full range of sidewall grades for the composite and pre-shaped sidewalls.

 

Our ramming pastes

CARBONE SAVOIE manufactures three families of pastes.

  • Anthracitic tepid and cold pastes: AMT73S20, AMT73S30, AMT73S40 :

Widely used in all kinds of cells. These cold ramming pastes offer proven quality together with the choice of three ramming temperatures to suit local climatic conditions, and offer the advantage of better working conditions, with reduced fume emissions.

  • High thermal conductivity cold pastes :

HTC”. These semi-graphitic grades present a higher thermal conductivity allowing a better thermal balance adjustment when needed.

  • Carbone Savoie developed the Ecofriendly ramming paste: S20EF, S30EF, and S40EF polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

These grades are specially formulated to drastically reduce the level of toxic emissions associated with both the ramming operation and the preheating of the pot. The properties are almost identical to our standard family with the equivalent range of ramming temperatures.

  • Neo² the first 100% clean ramming paste

NeO² is the latest generation of ramming paste, developed by Carbone Savoie to comply with the most stringent requirements on Health and Environment at the workplace. NeO² is a 100% non-hazardous product for both the personnel and the environment, free of PaH, free of BaP, free of Phenol… Its physical-chemical properties are fully meeting Carbone Savoie philosophy and compared to standard Carbone Savoie pastes, NeO² also offers a larger ramming temperature window and a longer storage life.

Our specialties

Among Carbone Savoie specialties:

  • HCF80 sealing paste, used to ensure a good electrical contact between cathode rod/bar and cathode block in order to achieve a low cathodic voltage drop in the cell.
  • AD20 glue is used to glue cathode bottom blocks or sidewalls. This glue cures at room temperature and can be applied on many kinds of products: carbon, graphite, SiC, steel.
  • AD22 glue, applied by spraying at room temperature, is designed to improve the mechanical link between the bottom blocks extremities and the ramming paste after baking and the tightness of the pot.
