- Carbone Savoie has a proud heritage of more than a century of technological leadership and product innovation. Our R&D Center in Vénissieux is widely recognized as the best research facility for lining in the world. Staffed with award-winning scientists and distinguished engineers and technicians, major advances in carbon and graphite technologies have been achieved at Carbone Savoie.
- Carbone Savoie conducts a sustained policy of research, development and innovation to go with the new trends developing in the Aluminium Industry technologies. Carbone Savoie specialist are involved in both the upstream and downstream research with the development of differentiated products and strong partnerships with customers.
- Our innovation policy is based on three fields of research: the Reduction of the pot energy consumption, the improvement of product life and the reduction of use nuisances.
With the growing concern of energy saving, Carbone Savoie has focused its efforts on the energy-efficiency of its cathodes. In this prospect, Carbone Savoie has joined the Rhone-Alpes Research Pole built by the Rio Tinto Alcan group to develop a new technology of low energy consumption cells.
Carbone Savoie R&D projects also aim at increasing the lifespan of the products ; the various developments achieved allow producing cathode blocks that have a higher lifespan in the pots, therefore conserving the resources and offering to the customers a financial benefit.
Moreover Carbone Savoie is committed to improving the working conditions of operators by reducing the harmful effects during the use: Its Eco-Friendly ramming paste is specially formulated to drastically reduce the level of toxic emissions associated with both the ramming operation and the start-up of the electrolysis cells. When switching from tepid paste to EF, all the considered Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon emissions decrease (- 75%) and -70% of B(a)P as for other genotoxic PAH’s are emitted.
- Carbone Savoie has also a strong focus on R&D on process with the continuous improvement in our production process and on core research with the selection of qualified and new raw materials.
